What To Budget For In April

Don’t let the spring-time fun and distractions blow your April Budget! Here are five things to add to your April budget!

Remember, budgets are NOT constricting but instead give you FREEDOM to be in control of your money, rather than your money in CONTROL OF YOU!

Whether you are an excel nerd (like myself) or prefer pen and paper, I’ve got you covered.

Or if apps are more your thing, check out these easy to use budgeting tools:

  • Empower (formerly Personal Capital: Easily track savings, budgeting, investing, and retirement all in one app!
  • Tiller: Automatically tracks your spending, balances, and budgets in private spreadsheets owned by you. See all your money in one place, with everything customizable and top-rated support.
  • CountAbout: Powerful budgeting tools you can see how making a small change today (like giving up a latte) can help you pay off debt faster or reach your savings goals sooner.
  • RocketMoney: Easily track upcoming bills, see all your subscriptions in one place, and they can cancel unwanted subscriptions for you.

1. Gardening & Landscape

What a better way to welcome spring than working in the garden and enjoying beautiful flowers or fresh veggies that you grew yourself?!

Whether you are starting a garden for the first time or updating your garden, be sure to add all the needed supplies, updated tools and plants to your April budget.

2. Taxes

Taxes are due on April 15th, if your tax return is complicated or you are a business owner and want to maximize your deductions consider hiring a tax professional.

Also be sure to factor into your April budget if you will owe money. If you are receiving a tax refund check come up with a plan for that money ahead of time, whether its debt payoff, savings, or investing it’s important to have that plan ahead of time so you don’t spend it carelessly.

Save for Later!

3. Organization and Spring-Cleaning Supplies

With this weather, you might feel inspired to declutter and tidy up. However, buying storage bins and eco-friendly cleaning products can add up.

As you declutter, why not consider selling some items? You can list them for sale online or organize a traditional garage sale to offset the expenses of cleaning supplies (and perhaps earn a bit extra to tackle other items on your to-do list!).

As the seasons change and it starts to warm up outside it may be time to update your wordrobe with some new spring pieces, or a complete new wordrobe if your kids have outgrown all the warm weather clothes from last year.

Don’t go too crazy on a new wardrobe though, May will be the best month for spring clothing sales so just buy what you NEED this month.

5. Vacation Saving & Airline Tickets

Summer is just around the corner, don’t let it creep up on you and go into debt for family vacation.

If you aren’t already saving for vacation this summer, start saving now!

Rumors are circulating that airline prices will be increasing drastically throughout the year due to rising cost of fuel. If you already have the dates and location picked, buy your airline tickets now!
