Side Hustles You Can Do From Home

Are you looking to make some extra cash from home? Or maybe you hear all of your friends talking about their side hustles, and you want to hop on the bandwagon? There are hundreds of side hustles that you can find online, but it is hard to narrow down which ones are profitable and worth your time. Today I will be breaking down all of the best side hustles that you can right from your couch!

Freelance Work

The first thing side hustle that we are I am looking at today is freelance work. I am covering what it is, who can do it, and some of the best apps and websites for freelance work.

What is Freelance Work?

Being a freelancer is basically the same thing as being an independent contractor or being your own boss. When you start your own business, you act as the CEO, but you are both the CEO and the product when you freelance. You are in charge of who you are working for, what work you are doing, and how much work you want to do. With all of that flexibility, it is no wonder that about 41 million Americans are doing freelance work today.

Am I Qualified to be a Freelancer?

Every company is looking for something different, and every job will look a little different, so qualifications to work for a specific company will depend on the company itself, but anyone can start a freelancing business! All you need to do is narrow down your skillset and find what kind of jobs you would qualify for.

How to be a Freelancer

The easiest way to start out with your freelancing endeavors is by signing up through a freelancing app. Once you plug yourself into a network of people looking for freelancers, all you have to do is pick out the jobs that you would be the best fit for, and apply.

Best Freelancing Websites

If you are looking for the best freelancing app for you, look no further! Below I am going through the best freelancing websites and the features that make them stand out.

  • Upwork: Upwork is an app in which you upload your profile and specific freelancer interests, and you are met with a plethora of jobs for you. You can be a transcriptionist, a virtual assistant, a writer, or something entirely different! Upwork is great because you can do everything through the app, from applying, communicating, negotiating prices, and even getting paid! I personally use Upwork to hire people for tasks regarding my blog or website or anything else that I might need an extra hand with!
  • Fiverr: This is another fantastic website to sell your gigs (services) and make extra cash! The most significant difference between Upwork and Fiverr is that while Upwork allows you to search for jobs, Fiverr has you post your services, and buyers search for you.

Side Hustles for the Creative Types

If you are skilled in a particular art or found that you enjoy creating something, why not make a few extra dollars on it? The next couple of side hustles let you take your creative skills straight to the bank!

Open Up an Etsy Shop

Even though I am not a super creative person, I am a nerdy person, so I opened up an Etsy shop for Excel templates. While you might not have the same passions that I do, if you have a niche talent or artistic skill, why not open up an Etsy shop and make a little (or a lot) of extra income from it?

Start a Blog

Maybe you don’t want to dive into your arts and crafts kit, but another way that you can earn some extra income is through starting a blog. While this may seem a little overwhelming at first, I promise it is not as difficult as it sounds.

All you need to get started is a host website (somewhere to share your blog). I recommend Bluehost or SiteGround!

From there, you can get ad revenue, sponsored posts, and affiliate marketing! There are many ways to make money right away with blogging and you can dig into something that you are passionate about and share it with others!

Rent Your Car

If you are a two-car family or you find yourself not using your car often, Turo allows you to rent out your car to someone that may be on vacation. This is a great way to make extra money with something that you already have.

Rent Your House

Along those same lines, you can also rent out your house (or a room in your home) with Airbnb. Maybe you are going on vacation or have a spare room that you never seem to use; Airbnb allows you to safely rent out your home to vacationers!

The great thing about Airbnb is that it lets you set your own prices, and you can change your prices for peak seasons.

Sell Your Clothes

If you are due for a good closet cleanout, why not put those items you don’t need and make some money off them? You can use sites like Poshmark or Craigslist to upload photos of your clothes, or you can request a bag from ThredUp and mail it to them directly.

You can also flip clothes from a flea market or Goodwill to profit from the clothes you pay just a couple of dollars for.

Sell Your Photos

If writing isn’t your passion but you love taking photos, you can sell them as stock photos and make some extra income! If you scroll through a stock photos website, you will be amazed by all of the different types of photos that people are looking for!

While you may have to go out and take photos outside, you can come home and do all of the backend work (editing, uploading, etc.) all from the comfort of your own home!

Teach Online

Another way you can make some extra cash is through teaching. The best teaching program that I have found is VIP Kids, which allows you to teach remotely to children! For this specific program, you are required to have a Bachelor’s degree, but if you have that, you can earn up to $22 an hour teaching kids English!

Conclusion

As you can see, there are so many opportunities for you to make some extra money even with a full-time job. Plus, there is a side hustle for everybody. If you want to put your professional skills to good use, you can freelance through Upwork or Fiverr. If you want to do something more passive and use things you already have, you can rent out your car or house, or sell your clothes.

If you want to do something creative, you can create your own shop on Etsy, start a blog, sell your photos, or even teach!

No matter what you are looking to do, there is a side hustle for you.
